Speaker Don Scott Statement on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
RICHMOND, VA – Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, Don Scott, released the following statement on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“In his final writings, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. asked a defining question: ‘Where do we go from here – chaos or community?’ Today, we have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to answer that question. Dr. King reminded us that progress is not inevitable – it requires leadership, courage, and a willingness to stand together, especially in challenging times. As we look across our country and see fundamental rights under threat his message matters now more than ever. In this moment, Dr. King offers clear guidance: meet division with unity, fear with resolve, and disruption with steady, principled leadership.
“We must strive to honor Dr. King’s vision by leading with empathy, purpose, and compassion. Dr. King reminded us, hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
