Delegate Dan Helmer to Chair House Committee on Counties, Cities, and Towns
RICHMOND, VA – Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates Don Scott announced today that Dan Helmer will serve as Chair of the House Committee on Counties, Cities, and Towns, with Briana Sewell serving as Vice Chair.
“Delegate Helmer has a strong grasp of how state policy intersects with the real challenges facing local governments,” said Speaker Scott. “With Delegate Sewell serving as Vice Chair, the committee will be focused on practical, responsible governance that meets the needs of their residents.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chair of the House Committee on Counties, Cities, and Towns,” said Delegate Helmer. “Strong local governments are essential to a strong Commonwealth, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and local leaders to support effective, responsive governance.”
“I’m honored to serve as Vice Chair of this committee,” said Delegate Sewell. “Local governments are closest to the people they serve, and I look forward to working with Chair Helmer to ensure local voices are reflected in the work of the General Assembly.”
The House Committee on Counties, Cities, and Towns considers legislation affecting local governments across the Commonwealth, including matters related to local authority and the relationship between the General Assembly and Virginia’s localities.
